VRWS Leadership Interview of the Day

In approaching the 9th edition of the Vacation Rental World Summit, we’re releasing a series of interviews to leaders, key players and highly motivated people in our industry whose companies make a deep impact in our space and will be present at VRWS.

The aim is to get you some insight into these leaders and the company they founded, manage or work for, as well as getting some behind the scenes on their thinking, their motivation and their drive.



CEO - Transparent

How would you describe your career path and what led you to start Transparent?

“I started my career as a financial analyst in a large Spanish bank. After a few years, I started spending my weekends having fun with engineer and designer friends building 24 hours projects and competing in “hackathons”. This quickly became a passion and I decided that my weekend projects should become my day to day job. In 2015 I quit my banker job and teamed up with a few friends to build a metasearch offering packages of flights + short term rentals. From this initial B2C project it took us approximately 1 year to re-focus and create Transparent.”

Recent acquisition from OTA Insight paved the way for a bright future. How do you feel having formed the world’s most comprehensive data platform for both hotel and short-term rental industries?

“It’s very exciting – for us and for the industry as a whole! The persisting boom in vacation rentals, which we have all been enjoying, has driven first a supply and then demand convergence between our two industries. Aparthotel inventory is up 39% since 2019, large hotel brands are investing in short-term rental endeavours, and professional short-term rental supply is up 21% since 2018 in Europe. With this blurring of lines, it has become critical that our understanding of the competitive landscape evolves. Our acquisition was powerful for us for so many reasons, but principally because it positions both of our companies on the forefront of this evolution in travel tech and data and analytics. With our 42 tracked million short-term rental listings joining the global leader in cloud-based hospitality business intelligence, stakeholders including vacation rental property managers, OTAs and suppliers, hotels and DMOs are set to power their strategies with the most comprehensive and granular visibility over flight, hotel and short-term rental insights yet.”

Since the company was launched, Transparent has used to plan annual team retreats each year. From Medellin to Fuerteventura, what motivates you to travel with your team around the world?

“Another motivation for our joining forces with OTA Insight was a strong alignment in team culture. One of our core values has always been team-feeling and experience, and bonding through travel and shared experience has been at the centre of that ambition.”

VRWS 22 is about to land in Porto. What do you expect from the overall experience?

“We’re very excited to join VRWS once again in 2022 – it’s a big priority in our event schedule as it always brings together the industry’s biggest and brightest. Porto looks set to be no exception, and the beautiful location can only be a bonus!”
