VRWS Leadership Interview of the Day
In approaching the 9th edition of the Vacation Rental World Summit, we’re releasing a series of interviews to leaders, key players and highly motivated people in our industry whose companies make a deep impact in our space and will be present at VRWS.
The aim is to get you some insight into these leaders and the company they founded, manage or work for, as well as getting some behind the scenes on their thinking, their motivation and their drive.

STEVE DAVIS
How would you describe your career path and what led you to Operto?
“Iāve been in the technology industry for the past 25+ years, working in companies of all sizes and shapes⦠from start-ups to scale-ups, to major international brands. Building great teams, great products, and great companies is what I do best, and this is what Iāve been busy with at Operto over the last 2-years. Weāve completed 2 major acquisitions, completed a $12M USD A-Round, and grown over 500% in that period. Its been a ton of fun.”
“A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the wayā, your LinkedIn summary says. Do you have what it takes to be a modern leader?Ā
“Iād like to think so. I believe in radical self-reliance⦠which means giving people to tools, trust and runway, to get their job done. I also never ask my team to get their hands dirty, without being right beside them with my sleeves rolled-up. Itās all about building the best team possible, building trust and community, and giving people room for personal and career growth.”
Why does Operto positively impact guests’ stay?
“We impact both the guest stay, and the experience of the property manager to efficiently run their portfolio. The reality is that modern guests, prefer to self-serve. We all do⦠all across our lives. Whether it is online banking, online grocery shopping, buying flights⦠we all use our phones to bypass human engagement, where we wish. Operto allows this to happen through pre-arrival check-in, automation of entry and exit, in-stay communication, while also helping protect the asset of the owner through services like noise and occupancy monitoring. The removal of common friction points in the guest journey, is absolutely net-positive.”
VRWS 22 is about to land in Porto. What do you expect from the overall experience?
“Operto is growing aggressively in the European market, and VRWS is a great opportunity for us to reconnect with our partners and customers, and also engage with new property managers. Iām excited for the āspeed datingā portion of the conference⦠what a great idea (my idea). Hahaha š”
Youāll have the opportunity to meet Steve and his team on Sept. 15th-16th at VRWS
