VRWS Leadership Interview of the Day

In approaching the 9th edition of the Vacation Rental World Summit, we’re releasing a series of interviews to leaders, key players and highly motivated people in our industry whose companies make a deep impact in our space and will be present at VRWS.

The aim is to get you some insight into these leaders and the company they founded, manage or work for, as well as getting some behind the scenes on their thinking, their motivation and their drive.



CEO - Octorate

How would you describe your career path and what led you to start Octorate?

“I started to work in the Hospitality industry in 1997 when I created an online booking platform for Roman accommodation facilities. I developed FreeReservation together with a partner and with the help of a developer, but I soon realized that I did not want to rely on someone else to improve my website. That was the moment when I decided to learn how to develop and program software. During the following four years, I studied programming and I decided to found Octorate on my own. The new software was developed with the idea to provide rates and availability to all booking sites, which represented my competitors up till that moment. I knew the way they worked and I wanted to simplify the management of the distribution channels and to offer an alternative to the other expensive management software on the market.”

“Our business philosophy and approach are the same: to allow and promote a ‘technological revolution’ in the accommodation sector without asking any ‘big jump’ to our customers”, your LinkedIn experience says. What does make your methodology so simple? 

“When we started, I did not have enough financial resources to present the company to the big chains, since almost all of the budget was invested in the platform’s development. Therefore, at the beginning I decided to create a solution suitable for small accommodation facilities, which most of the time were not Travel Tech experts. For these reasons, we developed an intuitive interface built around their skills in order to guide them in the transition from “pen and paper” to Saas.  Creating an easy-to-use All-in-One solution characterized by a user-friendly UX has been the key to our success.”

Let’s say for the purpose of the interview that Octorate is exhibiting at an in-person event. A property manager approaches you to find out more. How would you describe the benefits Octorate provides?

“There are endless benefits to those who choose our solution: Octorate is constantly evolving to provide the best service and keep up with the developments happening in the Travel Tech industry. In this way, you do not have to change your Management Software every 5 years. Our platform allows you to have the most advanced technology available on the market in terms of support, features, reliability and security.”

VRWS 22 is about to land in Porto. What do you expect from the overall experience?

“Every year I take part in different events about VR. VRWS has always been the convention with the highest number of inspiring and interesting content. The way the convention is organized allows the participants to talk to each other and share their experiences, which is great to keep track of the latest trends on the market. For a company like Octorate, it is a big opportunity to meet up with property managers. At the same time, I will try to listen to the speeches and take part in the discussions that may evolve as well. I deeply believe that you never stop learning and these kinds of events are a great opportunity for insiders to expand their knowledge. “
