VRWS Leadership Interview of the Day

In approaching the 11th edition of the Vacation Rental World Summit, we’re releasing a series of interviews to leaders, key players and highly motivated people in our industry whose companies make a deep impact in our space and will be present at VRWS.

The aim is to get you some insight into these leaders and the company they founded, manage or work for, as well as getting some behind the scenes on their thinking, their motivation and their drive.

Founder - Dharma

  1. What do you do for a living and which part of your job do you enjoy the most?

I run a company called Dharma, which has several divisions, including Property Management and Hospitality Technology. I really enjoy seeing employees develop and grow as individuals and improve in their roles. I also find great satisfaction in receiving positive feedback from happy customers and using negative feedback to make improvements. Running a business is challenging at times, but I love what I do and look forward to seeing my company grow in the right way.

2. How does your company innovate or adapt to the evolving needs of the vacation rental space?

Dharma benefits from having two complementary divisions. One operates short-term rentals, and the other builds hospitality technology based on industry needs. This synergy allows us to observe and address the industry’s needs firsthand. Our Property Management division acts as a laboratory for our technology company, providing valuable insights and direct user feedback. We manage Apart Hotels, Corporate Housing, and Vacation Rentals, exposing us to various operational models. Additionally, we regularly talk to our technology customers and Property Management peers to gather feedback.

  1. How do you view the various predictions about AI’s impact on society, ranging from dystopian scenarios to transformative advancements, and how does your company approach or integrate AI technology?

While dystopian views about AI are prevalent in the media, I do not share that perspective. As a user of ChatGPT, I see AI as a beneficial tool despite potential negative side effects and misuse. AI helps with many tasks and is less harmful than other human inventions that damage the environment and public health. Our company embraces AI to support property managers and enhance guest satisfaction. I also encourage our employees to use ChatGPT in their daily work.

  1. What would you like to achieve by attending the Vacation Rental World Summit 2024 in Porto with your company?

I aim to become better known for my passion and desire to educate people on operations and help them improve in their roles. I want to meet like-minded individuals who share my enthusiasm for operational excellence.

5. What are your passions, including any hobbies or sports, that you enjoy discussing and sharing with others outside the professional setting?

I love hotels, especially those with friendly staff, great locations, and a nice vibe, regardless of luxury. I am a tennis fanatic and enjoy the outdoors, spending time with close friends and family in natural environments. I also love cooking good fish soups.

You’ll have the opportunity to meet Toivo directly at VRWS in Porto
